I am often asked for stock recommendations by my readers, family members and close friends. About a month ago an acquaintance said he had 30K to invest and wanted at least three stock recommendations as he planned to invest 10K in each one. I gave him DNA, HANS and CAT. A few days later he calls me back and says, "these are too high priced for me and I won’t be able to make any money on these high priced stocks. I can’t get any leverage." Myth!
First of all when you trade I recommend a dollar amount over a share amount. Instead of 100, 500 or 1000 shares use a set dollar amount like 5K, 7K or 10K that you plan to invest in each stock. In the above example we will use 10K for each stock.
In general we cover lower priced stocks but don’t get caught up in the myth that you can’t make money trading higher priced stocks. SHLD went from a low of $84.51 back in January to a high of $158.90 in June. That is an 88% gain in about 6 months.
