Stock Market Review

7 Stocks you need to know for Friday

After the market close, American International Group (AIG | news | PowerRating | PR Charts ) missed earnings by -$1.85, reporting a loss of $-1.25 versus estimates of $0.60.

Dell (DELL | news | PowerRating | PR Charts ) missed estimates by -$0.05, However, the company announced plans to buyback at least $1 billion of common stock in Q1.

Earlier today, Freddie Mac (FRE | news | PowerRating | PR Charts ) reported much worse than expected earnings, missing estimates by -$1.63. FRE's fourth quarter loss came in at $2.5 billion.

Shares of Sprint Nextel (S | news | PowerRating | PR Charts ) tumbled after the company also disappointed. Sprint reported a net loss of $29.45 billion after virtually writing-off the cost of its 2005 Nextel acquisition.

Visa May Raise as Much as $17 Billion in Initial Sale

Visa Inc. may raise as much as $17 billion in what would be the biggest U.S. initial public stock offering.

Visa, the world's largest payment-card network, plans to sell 406 million Class A shares for $37 to $42 each, the San Francisco-based company said in a regulatory filing today. Banks have the option of selling an additional 40.6 million shares, pushing the potential size of the deal to $18.8 billion.
