Investors were greeted with a lackluster start to the trading week despite positive takeover news hitting the wire. Shares traded in an erratic tight range until late session selling pushed them decidedly negative. The bullish news was counteracted by nervous anticipation of Ben Bernanke's statement coming soon. The DJIA fell -18.97, the tech heavy Nasdaq slipped back -1.84 and the broad based S&P 500 dipped -1.16.

Tuesday is chock full of earnings announcements that will add some flavor to the day.
