Stocks surged higher on better than expected retail news and solid earnings from several big names. Deep seated economic troubles were ignored as the bulls took firm control of the session. The DJIA closed up 144.80, the tech heavy Nasdaq added 32.34, and the broad based S&P 500 surged higher by 18.83.
