Exxon Mobil (XOM | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) reported that it has discovered oil off the coast of Brazil. According to experts, the reservoir could hold 8 billion barrels of of usable oil. XOM continues to trade in a short term range between $66 and $68.

Shares of Merck & Co. (MRK | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) rallied higher for a second day, gaining nearly 13% as the stock has begun to recover losses from heavy selling in late February and early March. Other pharmaceuticals advancing on the day were Pfizer (PFE | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) and Schering-Plough (SGP | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating), which has agreed to merge with Merck.
