Bernanke appeared slightly nervous during his testimony stating that the markets remain stressed and the budget deficit poses a serious threat to the recovery. Despite Bernanke's nervousness, stocks closed higher with the DJIA adding another 67.79, the tech heavy Nasdaq advanced 6.91 and the broad based S&P 500 climbed 3.45.
