7 Stocks you need to know for Wednesday

The Dow slid 29.23. The Nasdaq Composite ended the day up 2.18. And the S&P 500 edged lower by 1.58.

Here are 7 Stocks You Need to Know for Wednesday.

Hewlett-Packard (HPQ | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) reported quarterly earnings after the bell on Tuesday that were in-line with analyst estimates. The stocks was lower immediately after the announcement in after hours trading.

Among the companies reporting quarterly earnings on Wednesday, Target Corporation (TGT | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) is expected to report per share earnings of 60 cents, Deere & Company (DE | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) is expected to announce EPS of 1.09, and 44 cents per share is what analysts are expecting to hear from BJ's Wholesale Club (BJ | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating). All three stocks are trading above their 200-day moving averages, but it was BJ's Wholesale Club that was up more than 2% in advance of Wednesday's earnings report.

On a day when the Senate passed major legislation tightening regulations on the credit card industry, shares of MasterCard (MA | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) were down more than 3% and retreating to their 200-day moving average, while shares of Visa (V | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) were off by more than 2%, continuing to move in the narrow, $2 range they have traded in all week. Of the two, MA is significantly more oversold.

Per share earnings of two cents is what analysts are expecting to hear from retailer Hot Topic (HOTT | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) when it reports after the market closes on Wednesday. Shares of Hot Topic have traded in a tight range just cents above their 200-day moving average for the past five trading days.
