The Dow lost 100.28. The Nasdaq Composite slipped 1.59. And the S&P 500 ended the day down 8.89.

Reporting earnings before the market opens on Monday is Campbell Soup (CPB | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating). The food company is expected to announce earnings per share of 64 cents.

Goldman Sachs (GS | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) placed discount retailer Dollar Tree (DLTR | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) on its "conviction buy list" on Friday.

Among the bright spots on Friday was the performance of technology stocks including Dell (DELL | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating), which was up nearly 3% intraday.

A number of companies are announcing quarterly earnings after the close on Monday. Among them are Hertz Global (HTZ | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating), which is expected to report EPS of -0.05, Nordstrom (JWM | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating), which is expected to announce earnings per share of 30 cents; and DTE Energy (DTE | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating). Analysts are expecting earnings per share of 98 cents.
